Springfield is the fictional American city in which the American animated cartoon television sitcom The Simpsons is set. The state in which Springfield is located is disputed, but has been hinted at in several The Simpsons episodes. (David Silverman, a recurring director for Simpsons episodes, has stated that Springfield is located in the fictional state of “North Tacoma” (also spelled “Takoma”), though this has never been mentioned in any canonical Simpsons media, including episodes and publications, or by other Simpsons staff.)
